Kodi isn't an IPTV app out of the box — it's a general media center that needs one specific add-on, PVR IPTV Simple Client, to turn it into an IPTV player. That extra step trips people up more than any other part of Firestick setup, so this guide walks through Kodi's install and the add-on configuration in full.

What is Kodi?
Kodi is a free, open-source media center application available on Firestick, Android boxes, PCs, and more. On its own it plays local and network media files — it has no IPTV functionality built in. The PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on is what connects Kodi to an M3U playlist and turns it into a live TV player with EPG support.
Installing Kodi on Firestick
Kodi isn't in the Amazon Appstore, so it installs via the Downloader app like most third-party Firestick apps:
If you haven't set up Downloader yet, the full sideload steps (enabling Unknown Sources, installing Downloader) are covered in our general Firestick IPTV setup guide
Open Downloader and enter Kodi's official APK download URL (search "Kodi download Firestick" for the current link from kodi.tv)
Let the download finish, then select Install
Open Kodi once installation completes
Installing the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on
This is the step most Kodi guides skip over too quickly:
From Kodi's home screen, go to Settings (the gear icon) → Add-ons
Select My add-ons → PVR clients
Choose PVR IPTV Simple Client and select Enable
Select Configure to open its settings
Watch on any device — no cable needed
Start your free 24-hour trial. No credit card required.
Inside the PVR IPTV Simple Client configuration screen:
Under the General tab, set M3U Play List URL to "Remote path (Internet address)"
Paste the M3U URL your IPTV provider supplied into the M3U Play List URL field
Switch to the EPG Settings tab, set the EPG source to "Remote path (Internet address)," and paste your provider's XMLTV URL
Select OK, then restart Kodi for the changes to take effect
Most providers, including Watchzio, send both URLs by email right after signup. Don't have them yet? Start a free 24-hour trial — no card required.
Accessing Live TV in Kodi
After restarting, go to Kodi's home screen and select TV from the main menu (it appears once the PVR add-on is enabled). The channel list loads from your M3U playlist, and the EPG populates alongside it once it finishes its first sync — typically 10-15 minutes.
Fixing common problems
"TV" menu item missing — confirm the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on is enabled under Settings → Add-ons → My add-ons → PVR clients
Channels not loading — re-check the M3U URL for typos, particularly a missing "http://," and confirm you selected "Remote path" rather than a local file
EPG showing no data — allow 10-15 minutes after first setup; if it's still empty, re-check the XMLTV URL in the EPG Settings tab
Buffering — confirm your connection meets the minimum (10 Mbps for HD, 25+ Mbps for 4K); a wired Ethernet connection resolves most Wi-Fi-related buffering
The Bottom Line
Kodi plus the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on takes about ten minutes total to set up — five for Kodi itself, five for the add-on configuration — and once it's running, it's a fully functional IPTV player with EPG support. Need a playlist to test it with? Grab a free 24-hour Watchzio trial with no credit card required, or compare plans on the subscription page.

No. Kodi is a general media center with no IPTV functionality by default. The free PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on must be installed and configured to add live TV support.
What is PVR IPTV Simple Client?
It's a free Kodi add-on that connects an M3U playlist and XMLTV EPG source to Kodi, turning it into a live TV player with a program guide.
Can I use Kodi with any IPTV provider?
Yes. The PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on works with any service that provides an M3U playlist URL, including Watchzio.
Why is there no "TV" option in my Kodi menu?
This usually means the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on is not enabled. Check Settings → Add-ons → My add-ons → PVR clients and confirm it is switched on.
Do I need to restart Kodi after adding my playlist?
Yes. Kodi needs a restart after the PVR IPTV Simple Client configuration is saved for the new playlist and EPG settings to load correctly.
